Half Marathon Pace Chart: Finish Times 1:00 to 3:30

Find your half marathon finish time in the left column and read the pace per mile and per kilometer you need to hold. Times with a link open a page with mile and km splits for three pacing strategies and a plan built for that goal. Every row is computed from the race distance (21.0975 km = 13.109 mi).

How to use this chart

Pace is finish time divided by distance: a 1:00 half marathon is 4:35 per mile. The split columns assume even pacing; for negative and positive split tables open a finish time from the list above or use the pace calculator for any time not in the chart.

If you have a goal time but no plan yet, the half marathon training plans use the same numbers: enter the goal and the generator sets easy, long and tempo paces from it.

What the half marathon pace chart is for

It answers the question behind every goal time: what does holding that pace mean, mile after mile? Read the row for the time you want, note the pace per mile and per kilometer, and take it to a training run. If you can hold it for a few miles comfortably in the middle of a plan, the goal is sound. If it feels like a race already, pick a slower row. The linked goal pages add the splits for even, negative and positive pacing, so the same number becomes a race plan.

How to pace a half marathon from a recent 10K or 5K

Put the recent result into the pace calculator, read the predicted half marathon time, and find that row here. The prediction assumes you have the long runs behind you; for a first half, choose a row slightly slower than the prediction and run even splits. Even pacing is the default on this site because every other strategy is a bet: a fast first half borrows from the last three miles, and a slow start only pays off if you can speed up later. The half marathon plans take the goal and set the training paces from it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I read a half marathon pace chart?

Find the finish time you want, then read the pace per mile or per kilometer in the same row. Hold that pace from the start and you cross halfway at half the goal time.

What pace do I need for a 2:15 half marathon?

10:18 per mile or 6:24 per kilometer.

Does the chart account for hills or weather?

No. It is pure arithmetic: time divided by distance. On a hilly course or in heat, plan a slightly slower goal or a positive split and compare with the even-split column.

How do I pace a half marathon?

Hold the pace from your chosen row from the first mile, drink at the aid stations, and finish faster only if the last miles allow it. Starting slower than goal pace by a few seconds costs almost nothing; starting faster costs minutes.

How do I calculate pace for a half marathon?

Divide the goal time by the race distance. The chart does it for every finish time in steps; the pace calculator does it for any time in between, in miles and kilometers.
